Bluechip Genetics travelled nine hours from Victoria with three breeds, Holstein, Jersey and Illawarra to be part of the spring show display at the Adelaide Royal. The road trip was sparked by the reality that Adelaide boasts arguably the biggest dairy show numbers outside International Dairy Week (IDW). It also has a celebrated and competitive all breeds participation and this year 250-head courted the judges for places. Bluechip exhibited seven animals (representing three partnerships from three states) and took home six broad ribbons - including Supreme Champion Dairy Cow (Jersey), Supreme Junior Champion (Holstein), Junior and Reserve Junior Holstein and Reserve Junior Illawarra. Bluechip's Supreme Dairy Cow entry, Silverlie Stars Lilac, won the aged cow class under Jersey judge Geoff Heazlewood, from Latrobe, in Tasmania before going on to win the supreme dairy cow title. Lilac was honourable mention champion Jersey at IDW in 2008. Lilac is 9.5 years old with six calves under her belt, including a 2009-born Comerica heifer and she was milking 41 litres in her September herd test, giving her in 120 days (record in progress) 5658 litres, 3.6% 202Kg protein, 4.3% 245Kg fat.Last season she finished with 10090 litres, 3.5% 350Kg protein, 4.5% and 458Kg fat.

Bluechip was also the exhibitor on the halter of the unanimous Supreme Junior Champion (Holstein), Fairvale Damion Josie 54. Josie is out of the Gibson maternal sister to Fairvale Leader Josie 5, who won Grand Champion Holstein at IDW in 2006. Damion Josie's dam, Fairvale Gibson Josie, was second in the six-year-old class at IDW in January 2009. The Josies are owned in partnership with Fairvale Holsteins (Ross and Leanne Dobson, Tasmania).

The team rests up... Another popular team member included one of Bluechip's best brood cows, Bluechip Derry Bonnie (owned with Fairvale Holsteins). Bonnie has close to 15 daughters and she has racked more than 10,000 litres in 200 days continuing with a 4.2% and a 3.2% protein.
